The Andre Gunder Frank Collection

The Andre Gunder Frank Collection represents the working collection of books Gunder Frank relied on in the last decade of his life. His books, articles, and papers used up until 1995 are in a special collection at the University of Amsterdam, where he formerly served as director of the development studies center.
Andre Gunder Frank was one of the 20th century’s most prolific intellectuals. He published over 40 books, some 140 book chapters, and over 1000 academic and press articles in his career. His works often shifted paradigms of and across entire academic disciplines. In his attempt to explain the dynamics of the world economy he in effect made history himself as many government and non-governmental organizations were guided by his ideas. Andre Gunder Frank was committed to social change, but was always diligent in his pursuit of intellectual honesty.
We hope this library will serve to inspire SSE Riga’s students and scholars from the rest of the world in their attempts to understand the past, present, and future.
SSE Riga’s visiting lecturer, Jeffrey Sommers was Dr. Frank’s doctoral student, and serves as the library’s curator.
